Chapter Nineteen
THE FOLLOWING MORNING LIAâS phone pinged with a text message.
Hey there, are you in London? If so, would you like to go dancing with me? J
A thrill coursed through Lia but just as quickly merged with confusion. After the way theyâd left things, she wasnât certain sheâd ever see Jay again, except on opposite sides of a protest. Her fingers hovered over the keys. Go? Donât go?
She sighed. Yes, Iâm in London once a week. It will be nice to dance, but as Iâm taller, shouldnât I lead? Lia grinned and pressed send.
A few seconds later a reply pinged. Ha, you just want to be top. If you want to lead, thatâs fine with me. Does this Thursday work for you? J
She would so like to be on top, but it seemed Jay wanted no more than friendship. Dancing could be fun and would be a change from the rather intense No More Oil meetings. And she wasnât in the mood for casual hook-ups. Jay had spoiled her for that, damn the woman. If only she could let go of the belief, or delusion, that Jay was supposed to be her soulmate.
That Thursday, Lia pulled Jay towards her as they were shown the steps for the waltz and then they arched their backs away from each other. This dancing was surprisingly good for her core, and it was a nice alternative to yoga. Plus, she wasnât going to complain at holding a gorgeous woman in her arms. She was surrounded by Jayâs spicy cologne, and she inhaled deeply, committing it to memory. It reminded her of an English wood in autumn when the leaves turned yellow and red.
âHead up,â Jay whispered and straightened Liaâs posture with firm hands.
Even in the following position, Jay was trying to lead. Lia tried not to notice the buzz of energy radiating through to her core from where their hips touched. âThis is surprisingly erotic,â Lia whispered back.
Jayâs eyes widened as though such a thought had never occurred to her. âWe donât have to touch at the hip if youâre uncomfortable. Most people arenât touching.â
She pulled away, leaving a cool space between them. Lia pulled Jayâs hips towards her own, and Jay turned pink. âIs this okay?â Lia took the opportunity to grind her hip against Jayâs. The exhalation from Jayâs lips was very satisfactory.
âMore than okay. But Iâm not sure I can concentrate on the dance.â
Lia dared a glance back to see Jay was struggling to keep a neutral expression. Her eyes gave her away though. âJust as well itâs quite straightforward then.â Lia counted them in, and they joined the other dancers.
As they glided across the wooden floor of the community centre, Jay moved with ease and was light on her feet, and Lia loosened her grip, so she could be subtly guided in a wave of backward and forward, up and down, and around. It was smooth and flowing, and she loved being at one with her body, like a soul-centred yoga session.
